Union Commission approves zoning change for Union Promenade, a 61.8-acre project in the heart of the city

Union Promenade, a strategic mixed-use project, involving a 61.8-acre site in the heart of Union, was approved by the Union City Commission with a major zoning map change.

The project, between US 42 and Old Union Road, is a mixed-use concept that includes offices, 50 single-family homes, approximately 300 multi-family dwellings and approximately 13 individual store buildings that will house both retail and upscale restaurants.

The strategic and highly visible location at 9253 and 9357 Old Union Road (US RT 42 between the Villas of Fowler’s Creek and the Union Fire Station) will be a focal point of the city facing a busy national highway.

The architecture and signage of the building will meet the requirements set out in the 2000 Union Urban Plan. In addition, countless considerations have been taken into account in Union Promenade’s conceptual development plan to ensure the highest level of quality expected by residents. The safe, ADA-compliant design provides a pedestrianized shopping district and will promote a “live, work, play” philosophy.

According to the 2020 census, the city of Union now has 7,416 inhabitants. Union Drive will help support community growth by providing new services and employment opportunities to residents.

“The City Commission is dedicated to maintaining Union’s appeal to small towns while managing the city’s rapid growth,” said Mayor Larry Solomon. “The Union Promenade project will provide a welcome gathering space and a better quality of life and services.

Letters of Intent have been received from Taste of Belgium, Dewey’s Pizza, United Dairy Farmers, Villa Mocha Coffee Shop, the Stone Creek Dining Company, Goodwood Brewery, City Bird Tender Store, a Food & Wine Shop, Blaze Cigar Lounge, Kids Story Children Care Center, Lux Lounge Medical Spa, a pet grooming salon and beauty salon.

Additionally, a potential outpatient operation from the hospital has expressed interest in the 60,000 square feet. office space.

The Union Promenade is expected to open most commercial land in 2023.
