Optical coherence tomography machine introduced in city hospital
Housing Minister Jogi Ramesh and renowned Belgian cardiologist Elvin Kedhi inaugurated the ‘optical coherence tomography’ machine at the Brain and Heart Institute of Andhra Hospitals on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jogi Ramesh appreciated the contribution of Andhra Hospitals to the society by bringing advanced medical equipment and world renowned doctors apart from providing free surgeries to a large number of children . OCT is a promising new imaging modality used to examine coronary arteries and has 10 times higher resolution than intravascular ultrasound, said chief interventional cardiologist J. Srimannarayana.
He said OCT can differentiate between tissue characteristics and provide detailed information about dissection, tissue prolapse, thrombi and incomplete stent apposition (ISA).
Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu, General Manager of Andhra Hospital PVRamana Murthy, Head of Pediatrics and Neonatology Departments PVRama Rao, Cardiothoracic Surgeon R. Dilip Kumar and others were present.
Previously, Dr. Elvin also gave a seminar on “Complex Angioplasty with Physiological and Anatomical Imaging” on the premises of the hospital. Physicians from across the state attended the seminar.
