Acquisition of a reception center for asylum seekers

Brussels, April 27, 2022. Inclusio, the Belgian SIR specializing in social real estate, is pleased to announce the acquisition of the Nonceveux reception center for asylum seekers located in Aywaille.

The building was built in 1981 and has been leased to the Belgian Red Cross since 1997. A new amendment to the lease contract was signed in November 2021 and guarantees occupancy of the building until September 30, 2030.

The building is located on the edge of the Amblève and develops a gross leasable area (GLA) of 7,296 m². The reception capacity is approximately 220 beds and the center is very well integrated into its local environment with good interactions with the population and the public authorities of Aywaille. For example, all children under 12 accommodated in the center attend the village school.

Inclusio has embarked on a major renovation program including the replacement and insulation of the roof of one of the wings of the building and the replacement of most windows and frames over the next two years.

Marc Brisack, CEO of Inclusio : “Inclusio had already rented a reception center for asylum seekers in Jette from the Red Cross. The opportunity to acquire this new building and to renovate it in depth fits perfectly with Inclusio’s strategy of investing in social real estate. Alongside affordable housing and buildings for people with disabilities, the “Social Infrastructure” category of our real estate portfolio now exceeds 25 million euros.”

Marie Polard, Communication Manager of the “Reception of asylum seekers” service at the Belgian Red Cross “Since 1997, the Nonceveux reception center has been managed by the Red Cross and welcomes men, women and children for the duration of their international protection procedure and until a decision is taken on granting refugee status or not. The building had to be evacuated in July 2021 after flooding last summer. After six months of hard work, we have been able to receive nearly 200 residents again since January 2022. Today, we are happy to continue the collaboration with Inclusio. We are confident that the improvement and maintenance of the building will go smoothly with this dedicated investor. This partnership will allow us to provide better housing for these people who are going through a tedious process.” https://www.facebook.com/centreCr.Nonceveux
